Title: Cut To The Heart
Date: 08-Jun-2014
Source/Author:         Rev Irene

Three physical manifestations accompanied the release of the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost. There was the sound of a mighty rushing wind, tongues of fire and speaking in other tongues. The first two signs heralded the coming of the promised Holy Spirit while the third sign came about by the Holy Spirit enabling the disciples to speak in known tongues of that time. But that was not the end of the day’s events…

The disciples who were filled with the Holy Spirit were accused of being drunk with too much wine. This was refuted by Peter as it was too early in the morning to get drunk! He continued to speak and what he said is classified as the very first evangelistic message preached after the resurrection of Jesus Christ. His opening line in this message was to quote a passage of Scripture from Joel 2:28-32 declaring what they have just experienced was the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. This Spirit is now poured out on all flesh from old to young and to male and female making all believers of the Lord Jesus Christ a prophetic people. This would in fact fulfill the very words of Moses who said, “…I wish that allthe LORD's people were prophets and that the LORD would put his Spirit on them!” Num 11:29

Peter was clear in his message that Jesus was crucified at the hands of man, died a physical death and raised from the dead by God simply because it was impossible to keep Jesus dead. He was completely sinless and has atoned for the sins of the sinful through His death on the Cross. The crowd was so convicted of their sinfulness that they asked Peter what to do about it. Peter urged them to repent of their sins for the forgiveness of their sins and to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. They will also receive the gift of the Holy Spirit after their repentance. That day 3000 accepted the message of salvation and were baptized.

Will you be cut to the heart once again this morning as we relive this story of Pentecost? Will you reflecton the great price that Jesus had paid for you and examine yourself afresh? Will you renew your love for him this morning and not be satisfied with being lukewarm in your relationship with Jesus?

Don’t harden your heart when the Holy Spirit speaks today to you.

Ps Irene
